Googles Page Ranking Explained
Google being the biggest search engine currently, it has indexed over 25 billion websites and attracts over 1.6 billion visitors annually. So it is in your best interests to get indexed with them. Google employs a host of algorithms and techniques to rank your site on its index, and this is known as page ranking.
Google uses page ranking to apply a rating to a website, determining how important that page is on the web. How does Google do this? It does this by counting the links back to a website. A link to a page, is basically a vote for that page increasing its page rank value. The higher the page ranking for the site linking to another site, the more important that link.
Two important notes about Page Ranking
- One way inbound links are more important then reciprocal, or outbound links
- The more relative the linking site, the higher the higher the page ranking you will receive
You cannot control the links coming into your site, so Google doesn’t penalize you for that, however Google will most likely penalize you if you are linking to banned sites. Remember Google will associate your site with the site you are linking to. So therefore make absolute sure sites you are linking to are relative to yours, and have not been banned by Google.
Google places a lot of emphasis into its page ranking technology and is constantly evolving. As long as you stick to the rules by not employing any Black Hat SEO techniques and provide quality for Google’s searchers, your site will slowly but surely start climbing Google’s index. Short cuts may help in the short term, but will always lead to your site rank dropping dramatically if you luckily, otherwise being banned permantly by Google resulting in you having to start all over again.
